We are a large public Allotments situated to the East of Poverest Recreation Grounds in Orpington.
With over 100 plots, our allotment community is ethnically diverse, and ages range from those with young families to retirees. During the year we hold several social events to provide an opportunity to learn from one another and create a sense of unity.
Research shows that spending time in nature improves mental health, including reducing stress and anxiety. For many the act of planting, watering, and tending crops provides a sense of purpose, relaxation and accomplishment. As well as fostering friendships and reducing feelings of isolation.
We are very happy to be part of the Dementia Friendly Community. Every member of our allotment community is unique, including their health and wellbeing, and we consider it important to enable our plot holders to continue to obtain the benefits of allotment gardening for as long as possible.
We make sure all our members are aware of who are Dementia Friends within our allotment community, the Dementia Friendly Community within the Borough, and how to access services and support. We also strive to make our allotments as Dementia friendly as possible.
