We are Admiral Nurses (Dementia Specialist Nurses). We are sponsored by Dementia UK and are employed by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust, working in the local community, based in Bridgeways as part of the Community Mental Health Team. Bromley Admiral Nurses work in holistic, relationship-centred way with families affected by dementia in our borough, especially those with complex needs. We help people to understand the condition, including how to manage behavioural changes, and we support people to live well with dementia. We provide support to help manage the wellbeing of families, carers, and the person with dementia. This often involves:
- Working in a family-centred, holistic way with carers.
- Specialist nursing assessment and interventions.
- Supportive education for families.
- Support that considers people’s mental and physical health.
- Supporting carers with loss and bereavement, as their loved one’s dementia progresses.
- Working with carers to develop coping strategies.
- Supporting families to manage difficult situations.
- Liaising with other professionals and organisations.
- Signposting to local activities, groups and events.
