At Walfinch Home Care Dulwich, Bromley and Sevenoaks, we are proud to be a partner of Bromley Dementia Friendly Communities (BDFC). This partnership reflects our commitment to supporting people living with dementia and helping them feel safe, understood, and valued, as well as supporting the goal to make Bromley a dementia friendly borough.
Dementia affects more than memory, it changes how people experience the world, manage daily life, and connect with those around them. As a home care provider, we support clients living with dementia every day. Being part of BDFC strengthens our ability to provide person-centred care and connects us with a wider network of people and organisations working toward the same goal: making Bromley a dementia-friendly place.
One of the most powerful experiences we have had was the opportunity to take part in as members of the BDFC was the Dementia Bus. This immersive experience gave our team a first-hand insight into what living with dementia might feel like. Everyday task, such as walking across a room or putting on a jumper, suddenly felt confusing and overwhelming. It was a moving experience that left a lasting impression on everyone who took part.
Another key part of our partnership with BDFC is the support offered by the core team. Led by volunteers who have personal or professional interest in the dementia community, the team are available to help new partners through the joining process and offer Dementia Friends sessions to staff teams. These sessions are a fantastic way to build understanding and confidence across our community.
The monthly networking meetings organised by BDFC, and hosted by the fantastic team at Thackray Williams, keep us connected to the wider dementia community, including local businesses, charities, healthcare professionals, and other care providers. They offer a supportive space to share experiences, learn from others, and stay up to date with local initiatives. These connections reminded us that we are part of a larger community of people who care.
Being a BDFC partner isn’t just about recognition, it is about being actively involved in creating a borough where people living with dementia feel included, respected, and supported. For Walfinch Home Care Dulwich, Bromley and Sevenoaks, this partnership is a part of who we are and the work we do every day.
