During Alzheimer’s Society Dementia Action Week 2024, KYN Bickley, which has been open since January 2024, launched it’s Approach to Dementia Care.  Throughout the week events were held to celebrate each of the six pillars of the strategy.

On Monday 13th May, we held a lively debate on dementia friendly language with guest panellists Professor Martin Green, Care England, Tom Owen Programme Director for My Home Life, City University and writer and family carer Beth Britton.  On Tuesday 14th May Hilary Woodhead, Chief Executive of NAPA talked about providing meaningful activities for people living with dementia in their own homes; and on Wednesday 15th May residents and family were invited to an afternoon of Songs and Scones and Sondheim, performed by Lily Armstrong.

Tomorrow, Thursday 16th May, Lewy Body Dementia Specialist Admiral Nurse, Rachel Thompson will be in conversation with Chris Maddock, Alzheimer’s Society Ambassador about living with the condition. The session runs from midday to 1pm.  There will be an opportunity for Q&A from the audience followed by a networking lunch. And finally on Friday 17th May you are invited to attend ‘River of Life,’ a special family workshop with Alison Charles that will help you to unearth and preserve your treasured memories using the ‘River of Life’ model of reminiscence.  Spaces are still available for both of these events, please email kynbickleyconcierge@kyn.co.uk
